Agartala, May 29:
Tripura is bracing for intense weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai districts, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds until May 31. The rest of the state remains under orange and yellow alerts, with authorities urging residents to stay vigilant.
Chief Minister Manik Saha speaking to reporters in the sideline of an agriculture department programme at Bishramganja in Sepahijala district speaking regarding the present situation stated, “From our side, we are trying wherever (during last year’s flood) there has been problem, we have spoken with the officials and accordingly they are taking their preparedness.”
He further noted, “Across the globe the timing of arrival of monsoon has changed, and in Tripura also we are noticing climate change. From our side we are ready and alert, I am in constant touch with the disaster management so that there is no problem.”
In response to the IMD’s warnings, the state government has directed all District Magistrates and emergency departments to remain on high alert.
