Agartala: May 25: A high-level meeting focusing on law and order and the ongoing fight against drug abuse was held today in Unakoti district. The meeting took place at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Kailashahar, the district headquarters, and was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.
Key officials present included DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, SP Avinash Rai—in charge of both North Tripura and Unakoti—sub-divisional police officers, officers-in-charge of various police stations, and senior representatives from other security forces.
Following the meeting, DGP Anurag Dhankar addressed the media and stated that although this was his first official visit to Unakoti as DGP, he had visited the district multiple times in the past. He emphasized, “Maintaining law and order is not the sole responsibility of the police. The cooperation of the public is a crucial force in this mission.” He appealed to people from all walks of life to support the police in ensuring peace and safety.
The DGP explained that the main objective of his visit was to develop and implement grassroots strategies in alignment with the Chief Minister’s vision of a ‘Drug-Free Tripura’. He highlighted that the state currently has a conviction rate of over 30%, which reflects positively on ongoing enforcement efforts.
He also shared that after Unakoti, he would visit Dharmanagar in North Tripura, followed by a visit to the 13th TSR Battalion in Kanchanpur, where he would meet with troops and review their preparedness.
Meanwhile, the sudden nature of the visit has sparked speculation within administrative circles. Many believe that the state police may soon launch intensified operations and introduce major new measures to strengthen the anti-drug campaign across Tripura.
