Agartala: May 24: The Pradesh Youth Congress has launched a scathing attack on the Tripura government, accusing it of misleading the public with inconsistent employment statistics. In a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Saturday, Pradesh Youth Congress President Nilkamal Saha alleged that the state’s unemployment crisis is worsening, despite the government’s contradictory claims of job creation.
Saha pointed out that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other ministers have cited different employment figures at various public events—first claiming the creation of 13,000 jobs, then 16,000, and now 19,000. These inconsistent statements, according to the Youth Congress, are creating confusion among the unemployed youth of the state.
Calling for transparency, Saha demanded that the government release accurate and verified data on employment and vacancies. He alleged that the actual number of jobs created is far less than the government claims, and that a significant portion of these positions includes outsourced roles and “die harness” jobs—offered to family members of deceased government employees rather than new recruitment.
Saha further claimed that the lack of genuine employment opportunities is pushing many youths toward substance abuse, exacerbating the state’s social challenges. He also accused some drug dealers of having political links with the ruling party, adding a grave dimension to the issue.
Criticizing the government’s handling of the employment situation, Saha stressed the need for factual representation of job statistics and demanded the publication of a detailed report on existing job vacancies in the state.
The Youth Congress urged the government to stop misleading the public and to focus instead on implementing concrete policies to address youth unemployment and improve transparency in recruitment processes across Tripura.
