Agartala, May 17: In a significant move to expand access to higher education, the Tripura government has announced the establishment of three new government degree colleges from the 2025–26 academic session. These colleges will be set up in Ambassa in Dhalai district, and Kakraban and Karbook in Gomati district.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha shared this development through a social media post, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and quality in the state.
In his post, the Chief Minister stated, “As part of the government’s initiative to expand access to higher education for the students of Tripura, we have decided to establish three new general degree colleges at Ambassa (Dhalai), Kakraban, and Karbook (Gomati) from the upcoming 2025–26 academic session. This will not only make higher education more accessible for students in these regions but also accelerate the government’s ongoing mission to promote quality education across the state.”
The decision is expected to significantly benefit students from these remote and underserved areas by reducing the distance to access higher educational institutions. It also aligns with the state government’s broader vision of improving educational infrastructure and increasing enrolment in higher education, particularly in tribal and rural belts.
These colleges will offer general degree programs across various disciplines, and their academic structure, admission procedures, and staffing will be governed by the Department of Higher Education and the affiliating university, as per established regulations.
The Chief Minister’s announcement has been widely welcomed by educators, students, and local communities, who believe this move will open new pathways for academic and socio-economic growth in the region.
