Agartala, May 17: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh along with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister of State SP Singh Baghel, inaugurated a 40 TLPD (Thousand Litres Per Day) milk processing plant of Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd at Bamutia in West Tripura district on Saturday.
The new facility that came at a cost of around 23 crores with central and state government’s financial assistance is expected to significantly enhance the state’s dairy infrastructure, help reduce dependency on milk imports from outside the state and improve the rural economy.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, Union Minister Lalan Singh stated that the central government sees immense potential in Tripura becoming self-sufficient in both milk and fish production.
He assured all possible assistance from the Centre to support this vision.
“The Government of India believes Tripura has the resources and potential to achieve self-reliance in dairy and fisheries sectors. I have assured the Chief Minister of complete cooperation,” Singh said.
He further added that a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries will visit Tripura in June—depending on the Chief Minister’s availability—to hold discussions aimed at chalking out a roadmap for the state’s self-sufficiency mission.
Meantime, addressing the gathering Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the present government is working in a mission mode targeting to make Tripura self-sufficiency in egg, fish, meat and milk production by next five years.
The event marks a significant step in Tripura’s journey towards strengthening its rural economy and empowering local milk producers through cooperative efforts.
