Agartala, May 15: Senior Congress leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed on Thursday that former Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s recent gesture towards the Congress party had no political undertone. Speaking to the media, Barman clarified that Debbarma’s act of returning Congress flags was a respectful gesture, not a sign of political realignment.
“Pradyot Kishore Debbarma visited the Congress Bhavan yesterday to return the party flags that had remained with him since his tenure as Pradesh Congress President. He handed them over from outside the building and left without entering. This act should not be misinterpreted,” Barman stated.
He further emphasized that the gesture was made purely out of respect for the Congress leadership and should not be linked to any strategic political move. “There’s no hidden message here. Speculating about political motives is unnecessary,” he added.
Referring to the shared political lineage between Congress and leaders across parties, Barman pointed out that many figures in the BJP and Tipra Motha—including Pradyot—trace their roots back to the Congress party. “It’s no surprise that they still feel an attachment to Congress. Their DNA is rooted in the party,” he said.
Barman’s remarks come amid political speculation in Tripura over potential realignments ahead of upcoming elections. However, he firmly dismissed the idea that Debbarma’s actions signaled any shift in political allegiance or a re-entry into Congress.
The symbolic return of the party flags has stirred discussions in local political circles, but Congress maintains it was simply a courteous act. As of now, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has made no public statement regarding his visit or any future political plans.
