Agartala, May 15: The leftist youth organization DYFI has demanded that the Tripura government immediately fill vacant posts in various government departments and abolish the current practice of distributing offer letters instead of formal appointments. During a press conference at the Student Youth Bhavan in Melarmath, DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb highlighted the alarming number of vacancies and called for urgent recruitment.
Deb stated that under the BJP-led government, Tripura’s health and education sectors are on the verge of collapse. “The entire state is suffering due to rising unemployment and the increasing influence of drugs, pushing the youth toward ruin,” he said.
While Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has announced plans to set up de-addiction centers in every district, Deb questioned why no concrete action is being taken to arrest and eliminate those responsible for the drug trade. “There’s virtually no rule of law in the state. Even the police are hesitant to arrest anyone without fear or influence,” he alleged.
Deb also revealed that 2,167 higher secondary schools in the state currently function without principals. According to official data presented in the Legislative Assembly, over 51,000 government posts remain vacant until 2025. He added that the last recruitment of engineers took place in 2017 during the previous Left Front government. Hospitals, too, continue to suffer from severe shortages of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff.
On a national note, Deb referred to the Indian Army’s precision strike on May 7 that destroyed terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the operation, Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh briefed the nation on Operation Sindoor. However, Madhya Pradesh BJP Minister Vijay Shah made derogatory remarks about Colonel Qureshi—remarks that were strongly condemned by the leftist youth and student bodies.
