Agartala: May 09: A high-level meeting of various security and intelligence agencies was convened at the official residence of Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha to discuss measures for enhanced surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border. The closed-door meeting, which lasted for over an hour, was aimed at reviewing the current security situation and strengthening border management strategies to curb cross-border threats and illegal activities.
Senior officers from the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, and other central and state security forces participated in the discussion. In addition, top officials from multiple intelligence agencies were also present, reflecting the seriousness of the issue and the government’s intent to foster better coordination among various security stakeholders.
During the meeting, the officials reportedly discussed issues related to infiltration, smuggling, and other trans-border crimes that pose security challenges in the region. Special emphasis was placed on improving inter-agency coordination, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and the use of advanced surveillance technology to monitor the porous and sensitive border more effectively.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the importance of proactive vigilance and stressed the need for a united approach to national security. He assured full support from the state government to all security agencies working to safeguard Tripura’s borders. The meeting also explored infrastructure upgrades and personnel deployment strategies to plug existing vulnerabilities.
Tripura shares an 856-kilometer-long border with Bangladesh, a significant portion of which is unfenced and passes through difficult terrain. This geographical reality makes it a hotspot for smuggling and unauthorized crossings, underlining the urgency for stronger surveillance and tighter security protocols.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on intensifying joint operations, conducting regular assessments, and maintaining round-the-clock vigilance to ensure the safety and security of the region. Further reviews are expected in the coming weeks to assess progress and implement new recommendations.
