Agartala: May 08: The Higher Education Department of Tripura has decided to cancel the summer vacation for this year. As per the latest notification, the scheduled summer break—from May 9 to June 3, totaling 26 days—for general degree colleges, professional colleges, and technical institutes across the state will no longer be observed. During this period, all colleges will remain open, and semester examinations, admission procedures, and regular classes will continue as usual.
According to the department, this decision has been taken to maintain academic discipline and ensure that the academic calendar remains on track. It is reported that this measure is aimed at compensating for the academic time lost during the previous academic sessions. The cancellation of the vacation is intended to ensure that students’ studies are not disrupted and that examinations and admissions are completed on time.
However, alternative arrangements have been made for the teaching staff. While the summer vacation stands canceled, teachers will be allowed to avail themselves of earned leave (EL) during this period if needed. This is seen as a compensatory measure to provide some relief to the faculty.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students and faculty members, with some expressing concern over the added pressure. Despite the differing opinions, the Higher Education Department considers this a necessary step to maintain academic continuity. All educational institutions in the state have been instructed to strictly adhere to this directive and ensure smooth operation of academic activities during the previously scheduled vacation period.
