Agartala, May 3: Amid intensified security arrangements along the 856-km-long India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, three persons, including a Bangladeshi woman infiltrator, were arrested from Agartala railway station on Friday night in connection with a suspected human trafficking network said a GRP official on Saturday here.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, the Government Railway Police (GRP), in a joint operation with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and other central agencies, apprehended the trio, confirmed Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the GRP station in Agartala.
The arrested individuals include Mamuda, a woman from Shariatpur district of Bangladesh, and two Indian touts identified as Krishna Debnath of Battala and Tutan Dey of Rajnagar, both hailing from the Sabroom police station area in South Tripura district.
Authorities suspect the group was preparing to travel to either Hyderabad or Bengaluru by train.
During the search, both Indian and Bangladeshi currency notes, multiple documents, mobile phones, and other materials were recovered from their possession.
The car used to transport them from the border area to the railway station was also seized.
A case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Indian Passport Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following preliminary interrogation, the trio was produced before the court, where police sought remand for further questioning to uncover the extent of the trafficking network and identify other operatives involved.
