Agartala, April 26: Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte on Friday announced that the state government will recruit 600 doctors through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) between June and July this year, aiming to further strengthen healthcare services across the state.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club, Gitte informed that the matter regarding healthcare concerns recently brought to his notice would be thoroughly enquired into.
He emphasized that while Tripura enjoys a better doctor-to-population ratio—around 30 percent higher than the national average—the state’s healthcare system still faces challenges due to the underdeveloped private healthcare sector, putting additional pressure on government hospitals.
Highlighting the government’s proactive steps, the Health Secretary said the department had conducted a detailed gap analysis of the facilities, equipment, and availability of doctors at district and subdivisional hospitals across the state.
“At present, seven out of Tripura’s eight districts have functional district hospitals, with Sepahijala district being the only exception. Additionally, the state operates 15 subdivisional hospitals,” he noted.
Gitte expressed confidence that with the upcoming recruitment drive, healthcare services, particularly at the district and subdivisional levels, would witness significant improvements, ensuring better access and quality treatment for the people of Tripura.
