Agartala, April 24: In a fiery statement on Thursday, Tripura’s SC Welfare and Animal Resource Development (ARD) Minister Sudhangshu Das called upon Hindus across India to “introspect” and “unite against Islamic terrorism”, warning that silence and passivity may lead to the “extinction” of Hinduism.
The Minister speaking to North East Live on the recent incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where, according to initial reports, Hindu tourists were allegedly targeted and killed after their religious identity was identified.
Das, known for his vocal pro-Hindu stance, launched a scathing attack on those who advocate the view that “terrorism has no religion.” Terming such views as “false and misleading,” he alleged that Islamic terrorism is a “global threat” and that Hindus must confront it head-on.
“From Bangladesh and Pakistan to Afghanistan, and even within India—in Kashmir, Murshidabad of West Bengal—Hindus have been the target of brutal attacks. How long will we remain silent and secular? How long will we avoid the truth?” Das questioned.
He further criticized elected Muslim leaders in West Bengal for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Hindus, adding that such statements go unchecked in the name of political correctness and secularism.
“This is not the time to look away. This is the time for Hindus to raise their voices in unison. If we do not stand united now, it might soon be too late and Hindus will vanish,” he warned.
This is not the first time the Minister has courted controversy for his hardline statements. Earlier also the Minister’s remarks have sparked both support and criticism across political lines, with opposition leaders accusing him of communalizing a sensitive issue. However, Das remained firm on his statement, asserting that his appeal was a call for awakening and unity in the face of what he described as “rising religious extremism.”
