Agartala: April 23: A recent militant attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has reignited concerns over national security and regional stability. The incident, which claimed multiple lives, has drawn widespread condemnation, including a strong statement from CPI(M) Politburo member and opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury. He labeled the attack a grave challenge to the country’s overall safety and a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by terrorism.
Choudhury criticized the central government’s handling of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, pointing out that despite the reorganization of the region into a Union Territory, militancy has not been eradicated. He argued that the sense of temporary peace created post-reorganization has proven to be superficial, as violent incidents continue to surface. According to him, the government’s predominantly militaristic and administrative approach has failed to address the underlying political and social issues fueling unrest in the region.
The CPI(M) leader stressed the urgent need for political engagement and dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue, advocating for a comprehensive approach that includes all stakeholders. He called for unity among all peace-loving citizens, irrespective of political affiliations, to collectively fight terrorism and safeguard democratic values.
Expressing deep sorrow for the victims of the Pahalgam attack, Choudhury extended his condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated the need for immediate and effective measures to ensure public safety. He urged the government to take a more inclusive and strategic stance, focusing on long-term peace and development rather than relying solely on force.
The attack and the subsequent political response underscore the complexities of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that prioritizes both security and sustainable peace-building efforts.
