Agartala: April 13: Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has released an urgent public advisory following a surge in cyber fraud cases involving misuse of its identity. This alert comes amid increasing reports of scammers impersonating TSECL officials to deceive electricity consumers.
According to TSECL, fraudsters are contacting users via fake messages and calls, falsely claiming unpaid electricity bills. They pressure consumers to make immediate payments or download malicious apps disguised as official services. These apps are designed to steal sensitive data, including banking credentials.
A notable incident recently occurred in Jogendranagar, Agartala, where a family using solar power under the PM Suryaghar Yojana received a deceptive message. Believing it to be genuine, they downloaded a fake app to view their bill and suffered financial losses due to compromised personal information.
TSECL has strongly condemned such fraudulent activities and clarified that it never contacts consumers via unofficial numbers or asks them to install unverified applications. The only official mobile app is *BidyutBandhu*, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. All official communication is sent through verified sender IDs such as “TSECLI.”
To safeguard consumers, TSECL has issued a detailed advisory:
– Do not click on suspicious links or download apps via WhatsApp, SMS, or email.
– Avoid downloading APK files from unknown sources.
– Never share OTPs or banking details with unverified callers.
– Be cautious of small payment requests claimed as “pending dues” or “reconnection charges.”
Victims or those who receive suspicious messages are urged to report the incident to the nearest police station, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at [www.cybercrime.gov.in](http://www.cybercrime.gov.in), or call the cyber helpline at 1930.
TSECL is intensifying public awareness campaigns and collaborating with law enforcement to combat such threats. For official information, visit [www.tsecl.in](http://www.tsecl.in) or [www.bidyutbandhu.com](http://www.bidyutbandhu.com).
