Agartala, April 13: In a horrifying incident, a 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped multiple times on Saturday night in Tripura’s North district. Police have arrested one accused while a manhunt is underway to nab the second, a minor.
According to police, the crime took place under the jurisdiction of Kadamtala Police Station when the victim was en route to a wedding function at a neighbouring house. She was allegedly intercepted by two individuals—Imran Hossain (35), son of Habibur Rahman, and a 16-year-old minor—both residents of Ward No. 3 under Kurti Gram Panchayat in the Dheu Bari area.
The accused allegedly gagged the girl and forcibly took her to a newly constructed hostel of a nearby Madrasa where they committed the heinous act. Locals later assisted the police in arresting Imran Hossain, while the minor accomplice managed to flee.
The victim’s mother, who filed a formal complaint with Kadamtala police, stated that her husband works in Dimapur, Nagaland, and she resides alone with her children. The girl, after returning home, narrated the entire ordeal to her mother, who then approached the police.
She further claimed that the rapists threatened her daughter, warning her not to speak out or they would “expose everything on social media.” She has demanded strict legal action against the accused.
Kadamtala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Debnath confirmed that a case has been registered under multiple sections of the IPC along with the POCSO Act, as the victim is a minor.
He said preliminary investigation supports the allegation of rape, though the final confirmation will come after the medical report.
While Imran Hossain remains in police custody, the minor accused is still absconding. Authorities have launched an intensive search operation to apprehend him.
