Agartala, April 9: In a sharp political attack on the ruling BJP-led government in Tripura, the Opposition Leader and CPIM politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Wednesday accused the ruling party of pushing the state’s youth towards drug addiction and an uncertain future.
He made the statement while addressing a special extended meeting (Bisesh Bordhito Somabesh) of the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF), held at the Dasarath Dev Memorial Auditorium in Agartala.
The meeting, organized by the central committee of the TYF—a tribal youth wing affiliated with the CPIM—also saw the participation of leaders from the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Tribal Students Union (TSU). The convention began with floral tributes paid to former Chief Minister and tribal CPIM stalwart Dasarath Dev.
Chaudhury, who is also the state secretary of CPIM, said he joined the event to show solidarity with the youth movement and to encourage democratic forces to unite against what he called the “conspiracy” of the BJP.
“A large number of young leaders from across Tripura have gathered here to take forward the struggle for a better future for our youth and to protect the state from the ongoing socio-political crisis,” he said.
During the convention, TYF general secretary Kumudh Debbarma launched a scathing attack on the BJP, IPFT, and Tipra Motha alliance, accusing them of large-scale corruption in recruitment processes over the past seven years.
“Despite promising 50,000 government jobs per year, the reality is the opposite. Instead of job creation, more than 50,000 posts have been reduced in these past few years of the present government,” Debbarma alleged.
He said that the TYF called this special convention to deliberate on future strategies aimed at intensifying the movement against the ruling coalition, demanding job creation, an end to corruption, and the fulfillment of promises made to the youth.
The gathering is also being viewed as an effort by the opposition CPIM to regain lost ground in the tribal-dominated hill areas ahead of the 2026 TTAADC elections. The party appears to be consolidating its youth and student wings to mount pressure on the BJP-led government by rallying around issues such as employment, corruption, drug abuse, and governance failures.
