Agartala: April 09: At a district-level workers’ conference, former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb sharply criticized the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M), labeling it a political group with a “traitorous mindset” that has never worked for the welfare of the poor. Deb pointed out that in 2018, the people of Tripura decisively ousted the CPI(M) from power, a move that led to the formation of a BJP government under his leadership. During his speech, Deb emphasized that the CPI(M) failed to uplift the poor, accusing them of recruiting impoverished youths and turning them into Maoists instead of addressing their real needs.
Deb’s criticism also extended to opposition leader and Politburo member Jitendra Choudhury. He mocked Choudhury over his involvement in the “ginger scandal” and questioned why, despite the controversy, he remained active in politics. Deb also took a personal jab at Choudhury, alleging that as a Scheduled Tribe (ST) individual, he lacked the courage to contest from an ST seat and instead opted to run from a general seat in Sabroom, showing no shame in doing so.
Deb further accused the CPI(M) of showing no respect for India’s cultural heritage, blaming the party for neglecting the needs of the people for over 25 years. According to him, it was the people’s rejection of the CPI(M) in 2018 that allowed the BJP to rise to power with a clear majority.
The conference, which began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and tributes to prominent national leaders like Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, also saw the participation of several local BJP leaders, including South District BJP Committee President Dipayan Choudhury and Mandal President Sayantan Dutta. The event was marked by the singing of the national anthem and attended by a large number of BJP workers and leaders.
