AGartala: April 08: In response to the recent ₹50 hike in the price of cooking gas, the CPI(M) Sadar Subdivision Committee organized a protest march in the city to voice their opposition to what they termed as the central government’s “anti-people” decisions. The march, which began at the Sadar Subdivision Office, wound its way through various streets of the city, drawing attention to the rising prices and the burden they are placing on the public.
A committee leader, addressing the media during the protest, criticized the BJP government for continuously implementing policies that negatively affect the common people. He pointed out that this latest price hike in cooking gas is just another example of the government’s failure to prioritize the needs of ordinary citizens. He noted that the ₹50 increase in the price of LPG cylinders would disproportionately impact middle-class families, already struggling due to rising fuel costs and inflation.
In addition to the cooking gas price hike, the leader also highlighted concerns over the amended Waqf Bill, claiming that it could undermine the rights of the Muslim community. He expressed apprehension that such moves reflect a pattern of decisions that disregard the welfare of marginalized and vulnerable groups, further deepening social divisions.
The committee leader emphasized that the price hike affects not just the middle class but all sections of society, as it adds to the rising costs of essential goods. This increase in cooking gas prices, according to the protestors, will make it even more difficult for families to balance their budgets, pushing them deeper into financial strain.
The protest march, with its strong political message, aims to put pressure on the government to reconsider its decisions, and bring attention to the growing economic challenges faced by the people.
