Agartala: Mar 31: On Monday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] observed the 28th martyrdom day of former Health Minister Bimal Sinha, who was tragically killed on March 31, 1998, near the Dhalai River in Kamalpur. The day is annually commemorated as Anti-Terrorism Day by the CPI(M).
The observance took place at the CPI(M) state office in Melarmath, where floral tributes were paid to the late minister’s portrait. State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury and other party members participated in the event. Reflecting on the occasion, Choudhury highlighted the significance of the day and reiterated the party’s commitment to combating terrorism and upholding democratic values.
Bimal Sinha, who had secured a significant victory in the Kamalpur Assembly constituency, served as the state’s Health Minister before his untimely demise. The CPI(M) has consistently marked March 31 as a day to honor his memory and advocate for anti-terrorism efforts.
In related developments, the CPI(M) is set to hold its All India State Conference and Party Congress in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on April 2. According to Choudhury, 48 members from Tripura will participate as observers in the conference, which aims to review the current political landscape and discuss strategies for uniting secular political parties to address pressing national challenges.
