Agartala: Mar 28: On March 28, 2025, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a major narcotics smuggling attempt in the area of Border Outpost Ashabari, located in Sepahijala district. The operation took place around 12:00 PM when BSF troops, while on routine duty, noticed a large group of miscreants gathered on both sides of the border fencing. The miscreants, seemingly preparing to smuggle narcotics across the border, were significantly outnumbering the BSF personnel.
When the BSF troops challenged the group, the miscreants adopted an aggressive stance and attempted to force their way through the border. To prevent the smuggling operation from succeeding, the BSF adopted a non-lethal strategy, firing a single round from a Pump Action Gun to disperse the group. This action was effective in breaking up the smuggling attempt, allowing the BSF to seize a substantial quantity of narcotics and other contraband materials from the area.
During the confrontation, one of the miscreants, reportedly from Rahimpur village, was injured by a pellet from the BSF’s warning shot. The individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and his identity is currently being verified by the authorities.
BSF continues to maintain a heightened level of vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border to combat cross-border crimes, including smuggling and narcotics trafficking. This operation highlights the BSF’s commitment to securing the nation’s borders and preventing illegal activities, ensuring that smuggling networks do not succeed in bypassing the country’s security measures.
