Agartala: Mar 24: The Agartala Government Dental College has received approval from the Dental Council of India (DCI) to start a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) course. This development was announced by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha during an event marking World Oral Health Day. The event was organized by the National Health Mission and the Indian Dental Association’s state branch.
Dr. Saha, a dental surgeon himself, emphasized the importance of compassion in patient care and highlighted the significant improvements made in the health department. He also expressed concern over the rising oral cancer cases in the Northeast due to gutkha and tobacco consumption.
To address this, the government plans to introduce a mobile van for dental treatment and has approved ₹200 crore for dental infrastructure under the PM Divine Project. The MDS course is expected to commence soon, with an increased number of seats and a proper plan in place.
Other notable developments include the introduction of super-specialty services, kidney transplants, and plans for liver transplants. The event was attended by prominent medical professionals, including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and Indian Dental Association State Branch President Dr. Partha Roy Chowdhury.
