Agartala: Mar 24: In the Tripura Legislative Assembly today, the Minister of Employment Services and Manpower Planning, Tinku Roy, provided details in response to a non-starred question raised by MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and Sudip Sarkar regarding the state’s unemployment situation. According to the Minister’s statement, there are currently 336,551 registered job seekers in Tripura, with a majority of these individuals seeking employment through the National Career Service Portal. Of this total, 335,551 job seekers are registered on the portal, with 82,136 belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community.
The report highlights the educational background of the unemployed population, revealing that a significant number of job seekers hold advanced degrees. Among the unemployed, 245 individuals have completed PhDs, 18,905 hold postgraduate degrees, and 1,006 have doctorate degrees. This underscores the growing demand for skilled and educated workers in the state and reflects the increasing gap between educational qualifications and available employment opportunities.
The report also draws attention to the issue of over-aged unemployed job seekers. A total of 2,383 individuals have exceeded the age limit for government jobs, which has become a significant barrier to their employment prospects. This issue calls for a reassessment of age-related hiring policies and highlights the challenges faced by older job seekers who are still struggling to secure employment.
The Minister’s statement sheds light on the evolving nature of unemployment in Tripura, where educated and skilled individuals face difficulties in finding suitable employment opportunities. It highlights the need for targeted policies to bridge the gap between the educational qualifications of job seekers and the available job market, as well as the necessity of addressing age restrictions in public sector hiring.
