Agartala: Mar 20: The Tripura Students Federation (TSF) has announced plans to Indifinite strike from tomorrow in support of their demand for the use of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. This decision was made following a press conference held by the TSF leadership today, where they expressed frustration over the lack of action from the authorities regarding their long-standing request.
For years, the TSF has been advocating for the inclusion of the Roman script in secondary and higher secondary examinations for Kokborok, but their pleas have largely been ignored. According to a spokesperson from the organization, despite submitting multiple deputations to the Chief Minister, the Board President, and even the Governor, no tangible progress has been made in addressing the issue. The students have repeatedly raised the matter with the education department, yet it remains unresolved.
The organization highlighted the increasing pressure on students taking Kokborok examinations, where they are being forced to write in the Bengali script, a system that many find difficult and unfamiliar. This practice has sparked protests in the past, but without any substantial change, the frustration among students has only grown. As a result, the TSF has decided to intensify their efforts by blocking a national highway as part of their protest, demanding that the Roman script be recognized for Kokborok.
The move is a reflection of the deep sentiment among Kokborok-speaking students and their determination to preserve and promote their language. By pushing for the use of the Roman script, the TSF aims to ensure greater accessibility and ease for students, while also honoring the cultural significance of the Kokborok language. Their protest is a call to action for the government and education authorities to take the issue seriously and make the necessary changes.
