Agartala: Mar 19: There has been growing dissatisfaction among small traders regarding the allocation of plots for this year’s Chaitra Fair. Despite waiting outside the municipal corporation office throughout the night, many traders expressed their frustration over what they described as improper implementation of the plot allocation system. Allegations surfaced that the distribution process had not been fair, with claims that some traders were being disadvantaged due to irregularities. This led to an angry crowd of traders surrounding the municipal corporation in protest.
In response to the unrest, Mayor Deepak Majumdar met with the affected traders to hear their concerns and reassured them that the issue would be resolved. Speaking to the press, the Mayor emphasized that a total of 300 traders had been allocated shop plots for this year’s fair. According to the municipal corporation’s official list, traders will be provided with their designated plots. The Mayor also urged traders to avoid falling prey to middlemen or attempting to pay extra money for preferential treatment in securing plots.
This year, small traders will have the opportunity to operate their businesses along Shakuntala Road, with 475 forms distributed for plot allocation. The process began today, and many traders had already been waiting since the previous day in hopes of securing a spot at the fair. Mayor Majumdar reassured the traders that efforts would be made to ensure that the distribution of forms is as smooth as possible.
The Chaitra Fair, which has been held annually from April 1 to April 14, offers free business opportunities to small traders. Mayor Majumdar expressed his hope that the fair would continue to be a success, fostering positive relations between buyers and sellers in the capital.
