Agartala: Mar 19: A state-wide talent search program for young athletes has been successfully conducted, and a state-level sports competition will be held on March 21, featuring the selected players. This announcement was made by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, at a press conference on Wednesday. He shared that the initiative, launched by the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, began on February 4 and saw participation from 34,571 budding athletes across 247 zones in every block, municipality, urban panchayat, and municipal corporation of the state.
This is the first time that a program has been organized across the state to identify talented athletes at the grassroots level. The goal is to bring forward young sportspeople based on their abilities and potential. The selected athletes, in two age categories—10 years and 14 years—competed in football, kho-kho, kabaddi, and athletics.
The athletes were chosen from various municipal councils, urban panchayats, blocks, and municipal corporations and then participated in district and sub-district level competitions. In an effort to make the selection process more efficient and transparent, the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, with assistance from the Information Technology Department, launched an app called TSSB Live. This app is designed to help track and manage the talent search process.
The program aims to provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and get opportunities for further development in sports. The state-level competition on March 21 will bring together the best of the selected players and is expected to encourage more youth participation in sports across Tripura. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to nurturing and developing the potential of young sportspeople.
