Agartala: Mar 17: The much-awaited Assam Rifles Women Sentinel Cup 2025 officially kicked off on March 16 at the Lokra Garrison Football Ground with great enthusiasm, featuring seven state teams from across the Northeast, along with the DGAR Women’s Football Team. The opening ceremony, attended by Mr. Ankur Bharali (ACS), Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur (Assam), and Shri Kumar Chandra Vikram, DIG SSB Training Centre Salonibari, as chief guests, was held in the presence of 796 spectators. The event showcased the growing interest in women’s football in the region and the importance of sports in empowering young athletes.
The participating teams in the tournament include Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, and the DGAR Women’s Football Team. The competition is aimed at promoting women’s football, fostering sportsmanship, and encouraging youth engagement in athletic pursuits. The tournament is also part of Assam Rifles’ commitment to empowering women in sports and strengthening community ties in the Northeast.
The inaugural match between Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh set the stage for what promises to be an exciting competition. On March 17, Tripura triumphed with a 1-0 victory over Nagaland, marking a strong start to the tournament.
