Agartala: Mar 07: On Friday, a significant event was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, marking the award distribution for the Panchayat Raj system and the distribution of 475 computers to rural local bodies in Tripura. The ceremony was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who lit the ceremonial lamp to kickstart the program. In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of having all panchayats across the country run by women, stating that four gram panchayat samitis in Tripura are already being fully managed by women. He also mentioned that the state government had directed the relevant departments to assign female officers to oversee these women-run panchayats.
Dr. Saha further shared that the matter of the four women-run panchayat samitis had been communicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of providing computer and internet services to panchayat buildings, ensuring that all information is securely stored and easily accessible when needed. He pointed out the irony of critics who previously questioned the usefulness of computers but now rely on them for functionality. The government’s push for digitalization aims to implement transparency and efficiency in the panchayat system, marking a step towards building “digital panchayats” for stronger governance.
Dr. Saha also proudly claimed that Tripura had become the first state in India to introduce the e-panchayat system across its three-tier panchayat structure, a milestone the state takes great pride in. He encouraged panchayats that had not been awarded yet to continue their work, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the future for a chance at recognition. At the end of the event, Dr. Saha distributed awards to the winning panchayats, with notable figures like Panchayat Department Secretary Abhishek Singh and West Tripura District Assistant Chairman Biswajit Shil also present.
