Agartala, March 5: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, eight drug traffickers were arrested from various locations in Agartala on Wednesday during a special NDPS operation launched by the East Agartala Police Station, a senior police official said.
Speaking to reporters, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sadar sub-divisional Deba Prasad Roy stated that a special drive against narcotics is underway on the basis of information gathered by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of East Agartala Police Station with his team and it has started yielding results.
“Based on intelligence inputs, we have arrested eight drug traffickers and seized four cases of heroin, along with cash and mobile phones from their possession,” Roy informed.
Roy further revealed that the arrests took place at multiple locations, including a park near MBB College, Agartala Town Hall area, and Gol Bazaar.
The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth over ₹4 lakh, he added.
The arrested individuals will be produced before the court today, with the police seeking remand for further interrogation.
OC East Agartala Police Station Rana Chatterjee was also present during the media briefing at the police station.
