Agartala: Mar 01: The central and state governments have reaffirmed their commitment to empowering women through self-help groups in Tripura. On Saturday, Minister Pranjit Singh Roy took a significant step in this direction by handing over loan checks to members of various self-help groups during an event held at Agartala Town Hall. This initiative aims to support the financial independence of women and help them scale up their businesses and activities, thereby enhancing their economic standing in the state.
Loans are crucial for the women involved in self-help groups, as they provide the necessary capital to expand their ventures and increase their income-generating activities. In this context, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has come forward to offer loans to the members of these groups at favorable terms. The bank has already approved loans for women representatives from self-help groups across various regions of the state, contributing significantly to their financial empowerment.
During the event, Minister Pranjit Singh Roy emphasized that while national-level banks provide loans, they often do so at lower amounts and with more stringent conditions compared to regional banks. He urged national banks to increase their loan offerings to support the economic growth of women in the state. The minister acknowledged that regional banks, in contrast, have been more proactive in providing larger loans, making a notable difference in the success of these self-help groups.
The event was attended by officials from several banks, as well as representatives from self-help groups across Tripura, highlighting the growing support for women’s empowerment in the state. This initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to the financial inclusion and independence of women in Tripura, paving the way for a more economically self-reliant society.
