Agartala: Mar 01: Three CPI(M) leaders, Tapas Dutta, Trilokesh Sinha, and Babul Debnath, have surrendered to the court following a Supreme Court order. This comes after they were convicted of criminal trespass and assaulting a public servant in 2015, when they forcefully entered the Belonia Court and attacked Judge Ruhidas Pal during a statewide strike .
The leaders were initially sentenced to two months and two years in prison, respectively, but appealed the verdict in the district court, High Court, and eventually the Supreme Court. Despite being released on bail earlier, the Supreme Court’s latest order has put them back in jail until the next hearing on March 18, 2025.
According to Belonia’s public prosecutor Kishore Majumder, the final decision will be made after the hearing. This case highlights the ongoing legal battle and its implications for the CPI(M) leaders involved.
