Agartala: feb 28: On Thursday, February 27, the CPIM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) organized a procession and road meeting at Bagmara Bazar in Ambassa subdivision, Dhalai district, in line with their ongoing protests demanding improvements in various public services, such as drinking water, road repairs, and the development of education and healthcare. The party also raised concerns over the payment of wages to workers under the NREGA scheme and the filling of vacant government posts. The procession had received prior police permission and was set to proceed as scheduled.
However, the CPIM faced significant obstruction from the Tipra Motha party during the event. As CPIM leaders and activists gathered to start the procession, allegations surfaced that Tipra Motha party leaders and their supporters clashed with them, preventing the procession from taking place smoothly. The situation escalated into an argument and physical altercations between the two parties’ activists. There were reports that CPIM leaders and supporters were attacked and beaten by members of the Tipra Motha party.
In response to the violence, Anjan Das, the District Secretary of CPIM, arrived at Bagmara Bazar from Kamalpur to investigate the incident and speak to those involved. He strongly condemned the attack on his party members and expressed deep concern over the obstruction of a peaceful democratic protest. Das also called for immediate action to ensure the safety of party activists and demanded that the police take appropriate measures against the perpetrators of the violence.
The CPIM leadership reiterated that such incidents of violence and interference with peaceful protests would not deter their fight for the welfare of the people. They vowed to continue pushing for the fulfillment of their demands and for justice for those attacked during the procession.
