Agartala: Feb 27: During a recent visit to Lake Chowmuhani Market, CPM Politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar addressed the media regarding the recent eviction operation conducted by the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Sarkar expressed concern over the impact on traders, many of whom belong to poor, lower-middle-class families and rely on daily wage labor to support their households.
Sarkar criticized the eviction process, stating that it was carried out without prior discussions with the traders and lacked provisions for their rehabilitation. He emphasized the need for the government and the municipal corporation to engage with the affected traders before implementing such measures. Sarkar described the eviction as inhumane and called for a more considerate approach to development plans.
