Agartala: Feb 26: In a major development in Udaipur, Radha Kishorepur Police Constable Jayanta Saha was arrested in connection with a significant embezzlement case involving ₹82 lakh at an HDFC Bank branch in Udaipur. The arrest took place late last night, around 11 PM, by Udaipur’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nirman Das. The accused constable was apprehended from the Udaipur Police Line, and following the arrest, he was presented before the Udaipur Court today under the jurisdiction of the Radha Kishorepur Police Station.
In court, the authorities sought a three-day police remand for Saha, which was granted. The investigation has revealed that the constable is alleged to have embezzled a large sum of money from a customer’s account at the HDFC branch, shaking the faith of the local banking community and raising concerns about the vulnerability of customers’ financial assets.
As news of the scam spread, many customers whose accounts were reportedly impacted have demanded swift action, emphasizing the need for the recovery of the stolen funds and stringent penalties against the accused. The public outcry has intensified, with many demanding that law enforcement authorities take a hard stance against corruption, especially when it involves individuals in positions of trust, such as police officers.
Authorities are now focusing on determining the full extent of the embezzlement, including whether there were any accomplices involved and if the scheme was part of a larger operation. Meanwhile, police and bank officials are working to reassure customers that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The case has drawn significant attention, and its outcome is expected to influence both local law enforcement practices and banking security protocols in Udaipur.
