Agartala, February 22: The Youth Tribal Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the ruling Tipra Motha party, has announced that it will hold its first-ever plenary session in the state capital by the end of the current month.
The announcement was made by YTF office bearers during a press conference in Agartala on Saturday.
The two-day session, scheduled to begin on February 27, will determine the future course of the youth organization and on which the Tipra Motha party’s future is also largely to be affected.
Key issues such as the demand for Greater Tipraland, the implementation of the tripartite agreement—popularly known as the Tipra Accord—and the long-pending village council elections will be discussed.
The event will be attended by Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, Ministers, MLAs, and MDCs.
YTF president Suraj Debbarma reaffirmed their faith in Pradyot Kishore’s leadership and expressed confidence that the central government, despite opposition from certain quarters within the state, would honor its commitments under the Tipra Accord.
“We are waiting to see that the promises made in the agreement are fulfilled. We stand firmly with Pradyot Kishore in whatever decision he takes,” he stated.
Debbarma also referred to the recent warning issued by the Tipra Motha chief in a social media post, where he indicated that if the central government failed to implement the Tipra Accord, the party was prepared to exit the ruling BJP alliance. The YTF, he emphasized, was also ready for such a move.
Highlighting concerns over stalled development in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Debbarma pointed out that despite Tipra Motha coming to power in the council in 2021, a shortage of funds has hindered progress.
He also criticized the delay in village committee elections, which have been pending for over four years despite court orders.
“The delay in village council elections is severely hampering development in TTAADC. We urge the state government to conduct the elections immediately,” he asserted.
TTAADC covers more than 70% of Tripura’s geographical area.
With the YTF’s plenary session set to address these critical issues, there is every possibility that Tipra Motha may take decisive steps, potentially affecting the dynamics of the BJP-led alliance in Tripura.
