Agartala: Feb 21: The Tripura United Indigenous Revolutionary Peoples’ Council (TUIRPC) is planning to block the national highway in Baramura on February 25, starting at 6 am, as a form of protest. The organization’s president, Daniel Debbarma, announced this plan during a media briefing at the bridge area in Baramura on Friday.
The TUIRPC’s demands stem from unfulfilled promises made by the government, particularly regarding food and accommodation for former militants who surrendered and reintegrated into civilian life. Debbarma criticized the Tripura Tribal Welfare Department for its inefficiency in addressing their issues, exacerbating their problems.
The planned blockade highlights the growing frustration among TUIRPC members, who feel their sacrifices and commitments have been ignored. Baramura, a hill range in Tripura, is a significant location, with the National Highway 8 passing through it ¹. The blockade may impact traffic and daily life in the region. The situation remains tense as the group seeks to draw attention to their grievances and force the government to act.
