Agartala: Feb 13: In the afternoon, a joint operation between the GRP (Government Railway Police) and the RPF (Railway Protection Force) at the Agartala Railway Station led to the arrest of six individuals, including five men and one woman. The police seized a total of 32.5 kg of dry marijuana, which was stored in six bags. The suspects had planned to transport the drugs to another state by train, using Agartala Railway Station as a transit point.
During questioning, it was revealed that the arrested individuals had previously transported drugs in a similar manner through various stations, but this was the first time they intended to use Agartala Railway Station for the task. The arrested group is suspected of having connections with local drug dealers who are assisting them in smuggling the narcotics.
Sources indicate that the GRP police have set up a network of operations and are monitoring the situation closely, with the possibility of further arrests. The estimated market value of the seized marijuana is approximately Rs. 3.5 lakh. In response to the crime, an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act case has been filed at the Agartala GRP police station.
The arrested individuals are currently being intensively questioned by a team of three officers. Authorities anticipate more arrests in connection with the case. The six arrested suspects are set to be presented in court tomorrow.They are Jhalo Devi (38), Sahebganj, Jharkhand, Bumbum Kumar (30), Nalanda, Bihar, Lalbabu Ray (44), Vaishali, Bihar, Fulo Choudhury (60), Begusarai, Bihar, Brijesh Kumar (27), Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Sanjoy Chowdhury (48), Bhati Aboynagar, West Agartala, West Tripura.
