Agartala: Feb 11: On Tuesday, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma highlighted the significant role of bamboo cultivation in mitigating climate change during a one-day workshop titled “The Role of Bamboo in Climate Change Mitigation.” The event, held at the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute in Lichubagan, was attended by officials from the Science and Technology Department, including the Secretary, and students from various colleges.
In his address, Debbarma emphasized the urgency of raising awareness about climate change and adopting carbon-neutral practices to restore the environmental balance. “We are making efforts to help people understand the mitigation process, and bamboo cultivation plays a crucial role in this,” he stated, underscoring its importance in carbon sequestration.
The workshop focused on strategies to promote bamboo cultivation and its capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. Experts discussed how large-scale bamboo plantations could serve as an eco-friendly and sustainable solution to reducing carbon footprints. Bamboo, known for its rapid growth and high carbon absorption rate, was presented as a key tool in climate change mitigation.
Tripura’s favorable climate for bamboo growth was also highlighted during the event. Officials emphasized the need for policy support and active community participation to maximize the potential benefits of bamboo cultivation in the state.
