Agartala: Feb 11: The Left Front has come out strongly against the central budget, calling it “planless and careless.” At a press conference on Tuesday, the five Left Front parties raised several concerns, including how the government plans to fund tax exemptions up to Rs 12 lakh. They questioned whether the government would divert funds from projects like REGA and ICDS, which could be used to create employment, build infrastructure, and industries.
The Left Front also alleged that the budget failed to allocate additional funds for farmers, instead reducing allocations for schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. They accused the government of making false promises to farmers in Agartala city.
In response, the Left Front plans to present an alternative budget proposal, highlighting the concerns of farmers, rural development, and the need for responsible funding. They aim to raise awareness among the public about these issues.
This isn’t the first time an alternative budget has been proposed. In Ireland, the Social Democrats launched their Alternative Budget 2025, focusing on investment in public services, affordable housing, and childcare. Similarly, in the US, experts have introduced competing proposals for future defense budgets, highlighting the need for careful consideration of funding priorities .
