Agartala: Feb 11: On Tuesday, the Tribal Students’ Union (TSU) submitted a deputation to the Tribal Welfare Department, outlining a three-point demand to address ongoing issues faced by tribal students in the state. The demands included making alternative arrangements for students who missed the deadline to fill out scholarship forms for higher education, as well as the regular filling of vacant posts in ST hostels.
Sajit Debbarma, the organization’s general secretary, expressed concern over the continuous struggles of tribal students, despite the state being governed by two parties, Tiprassa Daradi and Janajati Daradi. He highlighted that the long-standing issue of scholarships remains unresolved. Multiple deputations have been submitted over time, but the problem persists, signaling a lack of government attention to the needs of tribal communities.
Debbarma pointed out the disparity in the treatment of different communities, noting that while the scholarship portal for tribal students closed by November, the portals for OBC and AC students remained open. This unequal approach has left many tribal students unable to apply for scholarships. In response, the TSU has demanded that alternative arrangements be made for those students and that the government ensure the timely filling of vacancies in ST hostels. The organization’s actions aim to draw attention to the inequities faced by tribal students and to hold the government accountable for addressing their concerns.
