Agartala, February 11: The Tripura government has successfully procured 17,497.109 metric tons (MT) of paddy from 8,922 farmers across the state during the ongoing Kharif marketing season (KMS) 2024-25, with ₹35.62 crore already disbursed to farmers’ bank accounts.
This was disclosed by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during a press conference at the state secretariat on Tuesday, in the presence of senior department officials.
Minister Chowdhury highlighted that the paddy procurement drive—which began in 2018-19 and only after the BJP government came to power in Tripura —ensures fair pricing and income stability for farmers. Initially farmers got Rs 17 per Kg paddy which has now been increased to Rs 23 per Kg.
This time to facilitate smooth procurement, the government had set up 51 temporary procurement centers across 19 Sub-Divisions, allowing farmers to sell their produce conveniently.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for this season was ₹23,000 per MT, amounting to a total procurement value of ₹40.25 crore.
As of February 11, already 88% of farmers have received their payments, and the remaining dues will be processed shortly said the Minister.
Providing cumulative data, Chowdhury stated that since 2018, the state has procured 2,25,356.805 MT of paddy from 1,17,049 farmers, amounting to an MSP value of ₹446.13 crore.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and rural economic growth, assuring that paddy procurement will continue in the upcoming Rabi season with further improvements to ensure maximum farmer participation.
