Agartala, February 10: A suspected thief, identified as 35-year-old Babul Miah, was allegedly beaten to death in a mob attack at Bashpaduya Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Bilonia in South Tripura district.
According to Sibu Ranjan De, Officer-in-Charge of Belonia police station, “The incident occurred last night in JNV where a person was caught as suspected thief after which public had beaten him and now he has been brought to the hospital where he expired. The victim’s name is Babul Miah.”
Reportedly, the victim a resident of Muzaffar Colony, was caught red-handed after scaling the school’s boundary wall. Following this, a group of people thrashed him severely and tied him up.
Police rushed to the spot near the school today morning after receiving information. They rescued the injured man and took him to Bilonia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon examination.
Upon hearing the news, Babul Miah’s family members rushed to the hospital and broke down in grief.
Meantime, police has registered a suo motu case and investigations are underway.
