Agartala, February 10: A group of teacher aspirants who cleared the Selection Test for Graduate Teacher (STGT) in 2022 staged a protest near the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday, demanding immediate recruitment. However, police intervened and stopped them from proceeding further.
Carrying placards, the aspirants sought to meet the Chief Minister, who also holds the Education portfolio, urging him to expedite their appointment, citing the long delay since their qualification.
“Three years have passed since we cleared the exam, yet we remain unemployed. Despite multiple attempts to meet the CM, we have not received any positive response,” said one of the protesting candidates.
The aspirants emphasized that the state’s schools are facing an acute shortage of teachers, affecting education quality and leading to poor student performance.
They pointed out that student and guardian protests over the teacher crisis have become frequent, yet the government has not taken concrete steps to address the issue.
The STGT aspirants also urged the Chief Minister to appoint all qualified candidates from 2022 in a single phase.
It is noteworthy that during previous discussions in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Saha who accepted that there is teachers crisis in state and government is committed toward recruitment of teachers towards providing quality education but the recruitment process for graduate teachers remains stalled as the matter is sub judice.
