Agartala, February 4: Railway police arrested red-handed nine members of an inter-state drug trafficking network, including traffickers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, during a raid on a parcel van at Agartala railway station, officials said on Tuesday.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP station, stated that the operation, conducted jointly last night with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), was based on specific intelligence. Authorities seized 1,500 bottles of Escuf cough syrup, valued at around ₹30 lakh.
Among those arrested are Amit Kumar Srivastav from Bihar and Chintu Yadav from Uttar Pradesh. The other seven, all from Tripura, have been identified as Suman Mia, Chutan Deb, Aktar Hussain, Rajib Sutradhar, Majarul Islam, Chan Mia, and Prasanjit Das.
Police has lodged a FIR in the Agartala GRP station and are interrogating the suspects to trace the drug supply chain and its destination.
All nine will be produced in court, with a plea for police remand to further the investigation.
