Agartala: Jan 24: Five Bangladeshi nationals, including two children, were arrested by the Sabrum police for illegally entering Tripura after evading the Border Security Force (BSF). The arrests occurred in the remote tribal area of Magrum ADC Village under Sabroom, where the family had crossed the barbed wire fence that marks the international border.
According to Nityananda Sarkar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sabroom, the police received a tip-off about the infiltration, prompting a joint operation with the BSF. Acting on the secret information, the police and BSF apprehended the family members, who were identified as Sontan Mishra Dey (35), Tanni Dey (25), Narayanee Dey (57), and their two young daughters, aged three and a half and two and a half years. The family hails from Rangamati, Bangladesh.
The incident underscores the ongoing issue of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh into Tripura, despite heightened surveillance by the BSF. Crossing the barbed wire fence through agents has become a recurring problem, with infiltrators often managing to evade detection. A specific case has been filed against the arrested individuals, and further investigations are underway. The situation highlights the challenges faced by authorities in securing the border and preventing illegal migration.
