Agartala: Jan 21: Based on recent news, a raid was conducted in the Milonchokro Adarsha Palli area, where one Bangladeshi national was arrested by the police from the AD Nagar Police Station. The individual, identified as Samaj Priyo Chakma, was found in possession of a pistol, three bullets, some Bangladeshi currency, and a significant amount of Indian currency totaling ₹2,21,000.
Regarding this incident, the SDPO of Sadar, who is also the In-Charge of the Amtali Sub-Division, Mr. Debaprasad Roy, shared detailed insights into the operation. According to Mr. Roy, the police had received specific intelligence regarding illegal activities in the region, prompting the special raid. The operation was carried out meticulously, and Chakma was arrested at his residence, where authorities recovered the weapon and the foreign currency.
Mr. Roy confirmed that further investigation is underway, with an emphasis on tracking down the origin of the pistol and the purpose behind its possession. Additionally, the involvement of Chakma in any cross-border smuggling or other illegal activities is being probed. The presence of Bangladeshi currency in his possession also raises questions about potential illegal monetary exchange across the border.
