Agartala, January 18: A 45-year-old woman, identified as Kalpana Debnath, was found dead in a house in the Mohiskhala area in the outskirts of Agartala on Saturday.
Allegedly the deceased use to lived in that house with a man, is now at the center of a suspected murder investigation.
The deceased’s daughter, who rushed to the scene, alleged that her mother had been murdered.
She said that the previous evening she had spoken to her mother over the phone, and everything seemed normal. The daughter pointed to strangulation marks and blood stains around her mother’s mouth as evidence of foul play.
According to a police official from AD Nagar Police Station, authorities were alerted about the woman’s death and accordingly they arrived at the scene along with women officers. The body was discovered in the house and has been sent to the morgue of GBP Hospital for an autopsy.
The official stated that a man, identified as Sankar Sutradhar, a carpenter and reportedly the woman’s partner for the past ten years, has been detained for questioning. “We are investigating whether there is any hidden reason behind the death,” the official said.
A forensic team has also reached the site and is collecting circumstantial evidence to determine the cause of death.
When asked about the allegations, the police official stated, “The actual cause of death will only be clear after the autopsy report and further interrogation of the detained person.”
The incident has left the neighborhood in shock, with locals demanding a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the woman’s death.
