Agartala: Jan 13: Tripura’s Home Minister and Chief Minister Manik Saha recently revealed that 2,815 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested for illegal infiltration into India between 2022 and October 31, 2024. This was in response to questions raised by opposition leaders during the 13th Assembly session. Of those arrested, 1,746 have been deported, while 1,069 remain in detention, with 474 in jail custody, 8 in temporary detention centers, 2 in shelters, and 585 released on bail.
The state government has been actively working to address the issue of cross-border infiltration, taking legal measures to apprehend and deport unauthorized foreign nationals. This is a significant concern for the state, with law enforcement agencies facing a considerable workload in managing these infiltrations.
It’s worth noting that the issue of illegal infiltration is not unique to Tripura, with other states along the India-Bangladesh border also facing similar challenges. The Indian government has been taking steps to strengthen border security and prevent illegal crossings .
