Agartala: Jan 07: Uttam Banik purchased a shop from Jaydev Das in Sukh Lal Market on December 11th, Shantipara. After registering the shop, local club officials, known for their mafia-like activities, locked the shop on the night of December 13th. Uttam Banik discovered this on December 14th.
When Banik approached the local club, the leaders questioned his permission to buy a shop in the area and insisted he should have informed the club. Despite writing a letter to the Shantipara Ekta Yuba Sangstha Club requesting resolution, Banik received no positive response.
Two club members, Madhusudan Saha and Joyanta Saha, pressured Banik to hand over the shop to the club. When Banik refused, they prevented him from opening his shop and eventually broke into it on Tuesday.
Banik expressed his concerns, highlighting that the Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, had promised to make Tripura mafia-free. However, Banik questioned the reality of this promise, citing the mafia-like operations of local clubs in the Chief Minister’s own constituency. He urged the Chief Minister to address the issue seriously, as people are unable to run their businesses due to these club mafias.
