Agartala: Jan 05: The central committee of the Tripura State Indigenous People’s Liberation Council (Gana Mukti Parishad) has decided to organize a protest at Raj Bhavan on January 11, from 12 PM to 3 PM, to address the various issues faced by the indigenous communities in the state. After the protest, a memorandum will be submitted to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nalluri, outlining the demands for solving the problems of indigenous people. The announcement was made by Naresh Jamatia, the leader of the council and a former minister, during a press conference at the CPI(M) state office on Sunday.
This program is part of a nationwide movement under the All India Indigenous Rights National Platform. The initiative calls attention to the ongoing discrimination faced by indigenous youth in terms of employment opportunities. The council is demanding that both the central and state governments ensure reservation for indigenous youth in various government jobs, as well as in corporate companies and outsourcing recruitment processes. Despite multiple requests for information on reservation data, the government has not provided accurate details, which is one of the key concerns prompting this protest.
Furthermore, the council has planned a nationwide movement in January and February to highlight these issues and is determined to submit a formal demand letter to the Governor. The protest on January 11 is part of this larger movement, with local issues also included in the demand memorandum. The press conference was also attended by Radhacharan Debbarma, the General Secretary of the Tripura State Indigenous People’s Liberation Council. The council’s leaders are hopeful that the protest and subsequent actions will draw attention to the pressing issues faced by indigenous communities and lead to positive changes.
