Agartala, January 4 : Tripura witnessed a 13 percent decline in fatal road accidents in 2024 compared to the previous year, attributed to proactive measures implemented by the state government, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, Chowdhury, also the Food Minister revealed that road accident deaths dropped from 261 in 2023 to 226 in 2024.
He credited the reduction to various initiatives, including the deployment of interceptor vehicles in multiple districts by his department.
To further curb accidents, the Transport Department, in collaboration with the Food and Education departments and state police, plans to launch awareness programs targeting senior students in colleges and universities across the state.
These programs will address road safety, consumer protection, and drug abuse through seminars and quizzes.
The awareness campaign will kick off in Udaipur, Gomati district, on January 11, culminating in a mega quiz competition involving district teams in Agartala on February 8.
